Headquartered in Portchester, UK, the International Institute of Marine Surveying (IIMS) is an independent, non-political organisation promoting the professionalism, recognition and training of marine surveyors worldwide. The Marine Surveying Academy is a wholly owned subsidiary of the IIMS.

The IIMS is a worldwide membership organisation and the leading professional, global body for marine surveyors and has members in more than 90 countries. It is the largest organisation of its kind in the world and seeks to represent its industry to government and non-governmental organisations such as the International Marine Organisation (IMO), Coastguards, insurance companies, P&I Clubs and ship owners.

The IIMS provides a range of services to its members and allied organisations, the commercial shipping sector and the boating public, including:
• Maintaining a comprehensive database of over 1,000 member surveyors in more than 100 countries
• Professional training courses for marine surveyors, both online and face to face
• Each quarter, the Institute published The Report Magazine extending to more than 100 pages, highlighting key marine surveying topics and news
